I have been working in further education since 1983, and I have been writing, co-writing and editing text books for SAGE Publications since 2006.
My passion is to help new entrants to the further education, skills and training sector: i.e. the beginner teacher; trainer; assessor and/or quality assurer.
All my books are written in plain English and break down complex topics into easy to understand concepts.
I have a Master's Degree in Educational Management; a Post Graduate Certificate in Education; a Degree in Education; and qualifications in Business Administration; Customer Service; Management; Learning & Development; Assessment, IQA and EQA awards.
I have co-written international and national teaching qualifications for several awarding organisations, as well as working for them in a compliance and quality assurance capacity. I am based in East Yorkshire, England (UK). I have delivered events in various parts of the UK, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Hong Kong.
I am a Fellow of the Society for Education and Training and I hold QTLS status.

I achieved a Medal of Excellence whilst teaching at Bishop Burton College. This medal was presented to me by the ex-politician Ed Balls (pictured).
I have organised and facilitated many CPD events in the UK and abroad.
I have written, co-written and edited several educational text books.
I have created electronic resources to help teachers and learners of the teaching; assessment, and quality assurance qualifications.
I have created the content of online CPD modules to help practitioners maintain and update their currency of practice, and work towards a relevant qualification.
I have taught in further education colleges since 1983. I have quality assured (internal and external) the teaching, training, assessment and internal/external quality assurance qualifications for various awarding organisations since 1999. I have written qualifications; teaching and learning materials; and educational text books for many years.
I have helped new awarding organisations to become established, and new centres to gain approval to offer accredited qualifications.
I originally qualified as a hotel receptionist and trained new staff on the job at various hotels in England. I was approached by a college to teach the Hotel Reception course on a part-time basis and this began my teaching career in 1983.
I began to work towards my first teaching qualification in 1984.
Once qualified, I progressed to full-time teaching and worked towards a Degree in Education. I continued to teach hotel reception; business, typing and office skills; along with word processing when it replaced typing. A few years later I gained a promotion and delivered staff training programmes along with the assessor and quality assurance awards. I found a real interest in training new members of staff, hence the move to the teacher-training department of the college.
I also became the Quality Systems Manager for the college and produced a system for assessment and internal quality assurance to standardise practice across 98 different qualifications. I designed and introduced an ISO based quality system for all aspects of quality within the college.
After leaving full-time teaching, I worked for many years as a part-time teacher, whilst working for awarding organisations; writing text books; and establishing my own company.
You can follow me on various social media. however, I don't use it very much now. Just search online for Ann Gravells.
I co-host a LinkedIn group and a Facebook group for anyone interested in discussing aspects of teaching, learning, assessment and quality assurance. Please join the group/s if it's relevant to you. Some great discussions take place and you can ask questions and receive helpful advice from myself and others.
I have created reading lists for the Award, Certificate, and Diploma in Education and Training, as well as for general teaching, assessment, quality assurance and other educational topics.
All reading lists are in visual format. You can click through to Amazon to find out more details, read reviews, view inside the book and make a purchase.

I have created a Padlet (see image) which contains free copies of many useful documents and reports for teachers, trainers, assessors and quality assurers.
I regularly update it, however, if you would like something adding, just let me know.
The documents are free to access and download.
I have created an online list of useful websites for practitioners in the FE, skills and training sector.
You can access it here via Google Docs. However, some links might go out of date with time.
You can see photos and read feedback from previous events here.
I am not planning any more events for the foreseeable future.
